October 2020

It's here, the end of October. I wanted to hold off a few days from the original blog post schedule to make sure we could fit in everything we wanted with this post. So it may seem a little late for an October recap but bear with me here.

I started the month off by recording my first-ever podcast with Deece Comedy. We had so much fun and covered such a variety of topics from alternative education, managing a business, and a little background of how and why I started Bee's Knees Marketing Co. You can listen to it here. Thank you so much for having me, Deece.

Later that week, I drove up to Colville to interview Goldfinch, a new restaurant opening soon. It was so much fun watching owners and chefs Travis and Héctor work together in the kitchen. I am looking forward to heading back up to Colville when they are open. You can read all about them here.

Sticking with the production theme, I had two branding photoshoots, two video shoots, three blog post interviews, and a personal photo shoot. But it wasn't all work and no play. I was able to sneak downtown one day for a few hours to get some work done. I stopped by Revival Tea and had the cozy cafe to myself for the majority of the stay. It was such a great place to study or work on a project. I made my visit worthwhile and had a seasonal drink "chia-der" and a tea flight. Everything was absolutely delicious, and of course, I took some tea home. All their retail tea is buy one, get one half off and I picked up an extra loose leaf tea steeper. I was highly impressed with all the teas that I tried and I will absolutely be returning.

After leaving Revival Tea, it was lunchtime and I did not feel like cooking. Luckily for me, Wiley's Downtown Bistro is just right around the corner and all take-out orders are 20% off, making my super fresh and delicious tofu peanut wrap less than a fast-food combo meal. If you haven't had a chance to try Wiley's, I highly suggest you do! Everything I have ever ordered from them is nothing short of fantastic.

Speaking of trying new places, I also was able to try out Lumpia Loca for the first time! Confession time: this was actually my first time have lumpia because they were able to make a vegetarian version. If you haven't heard of them it's because they are brand new! A husband and wife team created this business during the beginning of the pandemic to help bring in some extra income. They were an instant hit and starting leasing a commercial kitchen and selling their phenomenal Filipino dishes for curb side pickup and I am here for it all. I love seeing stories like this! They play around with different flavors like cheeseburger lumpia, or dessert flavors like apple pie, or peach.

Speaking of desserts, you know I can't go a month without my sugar fix from Breaüxdoo Bakery. They released a seasonal flavor called "Morticia Spice Cookie," which is stellar (just like all their other creations). Now they are late-night dessert delivery, so I shamelessly answered the door in bathrobe and slippers. Don't worry, you can too, they won't judge. YUM!

Keeping things on a sweet note, I also tried a new (to me) bakery in the Valley, Blissful Whisk. This place is actually within walking distance of my parent's house but I've never had the chance to make it over there. I was scrolling on Instagram before starting my errand run one morning and saw a "toasted coconut latte" that just looked too good to pass up. The funny part is, I'm not a huge coconut fan. However, my son is so we both got one with oat milk and it was so tasty and a "cozy" feeling drink. Not only is the inside of the bakery adorable but they have a list of all their employees' go-to drinks which I thought was just the cutest thing ever!

Moving towards the second half of the month is when things got a little spooky. I ordered some Halloween-ish earrings from Rose and Mongolia. I found them on Instagram a few weeks ago and think her earrings are just so cute! I saw a black and gold (my favorite color combo) pair with an eyeball charm (I'm obsessed with eyes in art, I'm not sure why) and gasped. Not only was it enough to stop my scrolling but enough for me to say "take my money!" I ordered another black and gold pair with a funky face charm and she threw in a couple of pairs of studs that I just love. I mean, can they get any cuter?

Sticking with the spooky vibes, I booked spooky mini sessions with Honey & Lemon Imagery. These were so stinking fun and something I was able to look forward to for my Halloween festive fix (my son and I usually spend Halloween in Disneyland, but COVID had other plans this year.) All of her sessions come with professional hair & makeup and let me tell you, my hair had never looked so fabulous. Not only did I have blast during the shoot (did I mention that we ordered pizza?), but reviewing my photos with Ali after was so fun. Her brother is a digital artist (Raddish Cabbage) and I was able to order a witchy digital painting of one of the images Ali shot and I am in love! They could not be any more talented. Take a look for yourself:

Remember to support your local artists, folks!

Speaking of art and beautiful creations, I was on a mission to finish my Halloween quilt I started last year (before COVID, do you remember those days?) After many, many hours I was finally able to finish; well, almost just one last step for the binding that's it. After cutting out over 350 triangles and lots of trips to YouTubes for refreshers on finishing a quilt, I was able to snuggle up with the blanket on Halloween evening. I am in love with this pattern and think the Halloween themed turned out pretty well! Check it out:

We spent Halloween with our loved ones making popcorn balls, decorating donuts that we picked up from F1rst Ave Coffee, watching spooky movies, and carving pumpkins. It was such a fun and relaxed night! I love how creative everyone got to celebrate Halloween while social distancing.

This month was packed full of so many adventures. If you have any suggestions on a local business you'd like us to check out, feel free to reach out to us! We love supporting our community.
