For this month's Meet the Owner, we're crossing the border! Well, Washington/Idaho border that is. I recently had the opportunity to stop by Jim & Ann's home in Coeur d'Alene to see one of CDA's hottest new businesses: Coeur Designs of Idaho! Jim and Ann are a husband and wife team working full-time jobs and raising three kids when an idea is sparked into a business.
Recently moving from Spirit Lake, Ann was decorating her new home and had purchased a decorative shelf on Amazon. She knew Jim could have built it himself, but they were busy with the move, and who can say no to two-day shipping? Once it arrived, Ann was greatly disappointed. She had overpaid for a flimsy, low-quality product that didn't even seem safe for holding objects. That's when Jim went to the drawing board.
He whipped up a custom and quality shelf for his new home (happy wife, happy life, right?), and Ann was so impressed she snapped a quick photo and shared her story on Facebook. A few close friends really liked what Jim had made and wanted him to make them a shelf as well. They started sharing their photos, and their friends started asking, and next thing they knew, they had a back order of custom-designed shelves in a variety of sizes, shapes, stains, etc.
Every piece they make is entirely customizable, making their products perfect for any home. I was able to ask them a few questions about their business and their plans for the future. Now, remember, both Jim & Ann work full-time jobs, AND are raising three kids. They've both had to take some "vacation" time from their day jobs to fill orders!

A typical week for them is taking orders throughout the weekdays and filling as many orders as possible on the weekends. Ann handles the creative aspects such as designing and consulting with the clients, while Jim is the handyman! He takes care of the building and cutting, and Ann will stain/paint and put any last details on.
They recenty started working with local businesses such as Mint Mazy and Honey & Sage Beauty to design custom pieces for their business space.
They plan to venture into more furniture pieces such as nightstands, bookshelves, bed frames, etc. For now, they have plenty of shelf orders to fill. With any design, stain or color you could think of, it's hard not to order a shelf for every room!
I'm in love with the hexagon shapes, but they have made mountain, fox, bunny, Idaho, and diamond shapes. The possibilities are endless! Talk about a perfect Christmas gift (hint, hint.)
They plan to upscale their business even bigger by purchasing a house with a shop in the future. Their youngest, Jack, is an entrepreneur in training and was showing off his own creations. You can learn more about them and their products here and follow them on Instagram here.
Thank you so much to Jim, Ann, Jack, and their dog Bailey for letting me into your home to see behind the scenes at Coeur Designs of Idaho. You are the kindest people, and I am so excited to see how far you take this business!
